New Years Habits

Forget New Years Resolutions how about creating some New Years habits!?

Stop for a minute… Have you made any resolutions? Have you seriously committed to them? More importantly have you stuck to them so far?

You may have answered yes or no to these three questions. What ever the answers were it doesn’t matter. What matters is you take on board the info I’m about to give you and create a new habit. Your new habit or habits may even lead to you achieving your New Years Resolution.

Set a goal, commit to it and write it down

Firstly what ever you want to work on or whatever habit you want to create you have to commit to it and WRITE IT DOWN! So for example say your new years resolution/goal is to lose weight. Even before writing it down you need to make it more detailed. Don’t just say I need to lose weight. Say how much, by when, how’s that going to make you feel etc. etc. the more detail the better. Then once you have that grab your pen and commit it to paper. Here’s an example of what you might write down. I’m 15 Stone right now, I need to and I’m going to lose two stone by the 1st of June and I’m going to look and feel AMAZING! Let’s call this your ultimate goal. But we aren’t talking about goals in this blog we are talking about creating a new habit or habits. This is your ultimate goal but the habits will lead you to it. So now you have your ultimate goal written down, now write 2-3 new habits you want to create to lead you to this and repeat the process. Here’s an example. I’m going to eat 7-10 portions of fruit and vegetables every day to help me reach my goal of losing weight and i’ll feel so much healthier. Then another could be; I’m going to exercise for at least 45 minutes, 3 times per week to help me reach my goal of losing weight, I’ll look better and my energy levels will be increased. The law to abide by is… Make sure you put it down on paper!

Stick your habits everywhere and say them to yourself everyday

Now you’ve got your new habits written down, you need to get yourself some post it notes and stick your habits everywhere. I mean everywhere. In your wallet, in your purse, on the fridge, on the cupboards, on your computer at work, on the dashboard of your car, as many places as you can that you will see everyday. Next you need to say these goals to yourself everyday. As many times as you can, the more the better. What you are doing by writing your habits down, putting them everywhere and saying them to yourself everyday as many times as you can, is programming your sub conscious. This will make your habits become a part of you. Just saying you want to lose weight or your going to on the 1st of January one time is not enough.

Perform your new habits for 21 days

The only way your are going to achieve your ultimate goal is by. Actually performing your new habits for a minimum of 21 days. This is what will actually make them a habit, for good! Just like learning a skill, it takes repetition to create a new habit. You’ve got to do it every day, over and over again. Then the habit will be a part of you. But remember 21 days minimum commitment. In reality it may take longer. However performing your new habits for a minimum of 21 days is going to give you the best chance of making the new habits stick and achieving your ultimate goal.

Don’t worry if you slip up… It’s going to happen

The one thing we all have in common is we are all human beings. Human beings make errors, mistakes, slip up, have an off day. It’s going to happen and this is a fact. The most important thing to do is not let it affect you Just keep doing the things we’ve mentioned above. Never give up.
