5 Reasons Why You’re Not Losing Weight

It’s a well known fact that the number 1 health and fitness goal is Weight Loss. But it’s also the goal that people find the hardest to achieve. Even when people do achieve weight loss they struggle to maintain their results.

In this article I’m going to give you 5 reasons why you’re not losing weight. Some of them are pretty simple and you maybe already aware of them and others are a bit more detailed. Either way if you just work on one of these 5 reasons you will notice an improvement in your weight loss goals. If you work on all 5. Then over time you will 100 percent achieve weight loss and not just achieve it maintain it. Let’s get stuck into the 5 Reasons Why You’re Not Losing Weight. The first 2 might seem obvious and simple but trust me you need to be aware of them and also be self aware of what you are doing on a daily basis.

1. You’re Consuming Too Many Calories aka You’re Over Eating

This isn’t rocket science, yet I meet and work with so many people who are overweight and they aren’t even aware of how much they’re eating. When we actually sit down and talk through what they eat day to day and I highlight to them how many calories they’ve consumed in a day then in a week, they look like they’ve just seen a ghost.

Look it’s not your fault. Unless you know how many calories are in particular foods or you actually read food labels (who does this by the way?) then you won’t have a clue. However let me flip this on it’s head, it is ABSOLUTELY ONE HUNDRED PERCENT YOUR FAULT that you are stuffing too much food in your mouth. The problem lies in awareness and not tracking what you are doing. I’m not going into these, as that’s a whole other blog post. But these are 2 areas I work with my clients on.

Let’s just keep it simple… Want to lose weight? Then consume less food! By the way there are many ways and hacks to doing this.

2. You’re Inactive aka You’re Not Moving Enough

Did you know that 62% of the UK population don’t even hit the recommended daily amount (RDA) of movement. Think about it for a second… How often do you wake up, jump in your car, drive to work, go into the office, sit down for 8 hours, jump back in the car, drive home, watch tv and go to bed? Then think how much actual physical movement you have done in that day… Yep ZILCH, ZIP, ZERO, NADA! This is the lifestyle of the vast majority of people and it needs to change!

Movement and exercise has so many benefits not just weight loss. However the more you move the more calories your burn.


3. Underlying Health Issues

We’ve got the 2 basic reasons out the way now it’s time to go a little deeper. A reason why you’re not losing weight could be the result of underlying health issues. Such as, but not limited to: Hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, allergies, food intolerance, gut micro biome issues, inflammation, chronic stress etc.

If you know you have an underlying health issue, you are concerned that you may have an underlying health issue, or you suspect something else is going on. Then I HIGHLY recommend speaking with your doctor or a functional doctor to get some tests done. Don’t worry about having tests or checks done. How can you make changes or adapt or get better or lose weight if you don’t know what’s going on?

4. Your Mind and Heart Aren’t Aligned/In Sync With Your Goal Of Losing Weight

If you are struggling with your weight and are not achieving your weight loss goals, you may have a negative mindset. This can be for a number of reasons. Maybe you’ve tried lots of different diets and nothings worked, maybe you joined a gym and stopped going, maybe you’ve been overweight for so long that it’s the norm, maybe you are so unhappy in your body that it’s affecting your mindset. There can be so many reasons that effect your state of mind when it comes to losing weight and this can also lead to you becoming disheartened (your heart not being in it).

This reason for not losing weight takes a lot of self work, reprogramming and support. This is why when I’m working with weight loss clients, I don’t just focus on the physical. We can eat well and do all the most amazing workouts in the world but if our mind and heart are out of whack in relation to our goals, our self image and our overall outlook on life, then all that fancy nutrition and exercise is as much use as an ash tray on a motorbike!

Even though I’ve listed this as the 4th reason why you’re not losing weight this in reality should be the number one. Fix the mind and the heart and everything else will follow!

5. You Don’t Have A System/Framework/Methodology For Losing Weight

Most people who want to lose weight are attempting to do it wearing an invisible blindfold. They usually follow this pattern. I want to lose weight, I’m going to lose weight, I’m starting a diet, I’m joining a gym, this is too hard, I quit. Sound familiar? The issue with all of this is, that you don’t have a SYSTEM!

Everything or everyone that gets results or has some sort of success follows a system or you could call it a framework or methodology. Call it whatever you want but you need one! A good system in my opinion has 5 Key Points:

It’s specific to you and your goals
You can follow it and implement it even if you’ve been living on Mars for the last 20 years It increases your knowledge
It has a workable plan that integrates all the components you need to get the result you desire and maintain that result FOR LIFE!
It holds you accountable and provides you with a support system

All the clients I work with follow the system I have developed. The elements inside the system are adaptable and flexible to suit the individual, we are all different and all require different things but fundamentally the system doesn’t change.

This 5th and final reason, has 2 elements . Firstly it’s the road map/SAT NAV to achieving weight loss (or any goal for that matter) and secondly it’s the glue that holds everything together.


Here are just 5 reasons why you may not be losing weight, they could be many more but these 5 cover so many bases, and underpin all areas of your goals and ultimately your life.
